Facebook Is Killing Me!

ihaveissues1

I am one of them. Yes, you know. The person who cares “a little too much” about random little things. You know things like:

-The bed should be made once  you get out of it

-I must be in control of the TV remote

-No one can read my magazines before me

-I cant have trash laying in my car

So you get the idea. I have issues. On top of all those weird quirks is that I have another one. Its this:

fbhome

The new Facebook homepage is driving me nuts. Oh, when I say “new”, I mean the “Revised New Homepage”.  See after Facebook launched their  “New Homepage” they got a lot of negative feedback about it.  So much that they decided to take a look at it and make some small changes. Some of those changes are:

-Showing photos tagged with your friends in the news feed

-Allowing you to create friend lists on the homepage (great move by the way)

-Application requests and friend request are on right side instead of on top (another good move)

-News feed will update more often

-Ability to control application info that shows up in your news feed. (point here is so you dont see nothing but quiz results your friends have taken)

There are some other small changes that will be rolled out shortly.

So this is great, I know. Facebook is trying to make things better. Yet, they did one thing that is driving me batty. They “moved the birthdays/Events to the bottom of the screen”!

I hate it! I hate it! I hate it! If you look at my screen shot above, they don’t even show up unless I scroll down.  I say move the “person you may know” down and put the events widget back up top. There I have vented, I’m done now.

What? I need to get over it? There are more important things to deal with?

I know… our right. Ill move along now..find something better to do with my time…….

What are your thoughts about the Facebook redesign?Am I alone on this?

Dude, I am SO with you. I was wondering where that went. It should be up top for the user to see. Only bad move I think they've made so far.

you are not alone. I had the same experience this morning, when I noticed via Twitter it was a friend's birthday and wanted to send a "wall" message on FB. How's that for using one communication tool to influence my use of another (and enjoying having them quite separate, thank you very much).

But yeah, getting over it and moving on is probably best. The bad thing is that the site doesn't do what I need it to anymore, thanks to the UI change.

Don't you mean the "People You May NOT Know"? I rarely know anyone in that box and find the whole thing utterly useless. Yes, Dave, you are a wise man. While I don't care what total strangers Facebook thinks should be on my friend list, I do care that today is a high school friend's birthday (yes, I'm one of those people who sends everyone a birthday card). Would be nice if FB cared what their users needed or, even better, allowed us to control what we want/don't want to see.

I am in agreement! I was a FB newbie, so I didn't think a redesign would hurt me after about 2 weeks of use, BUT I WAS WRONG!!!!! How about letting users move their widgets where they want them, the way my blog page does?

    Yup. Ive said before –
http://shinynewtoy.com/blog/2008/09/11/facebooks-... – birthday reminders are FB's killer feature

But FB told you mine, so you must have found it.

Nice play with "People You May Not Know"! I need to use that!

Funny you say that. Earlier I tried moving the widgets, thought maybe that is why things were in different places..sadly that was not the case

Come on J.J…. I had your birthday written down on my calendar hanging in my kitchen! ;)

yes! I was like..wtf!? when I noticed the Birthdays were WAY down the page. I have maybe clicked on a person you may know thing once or twice–useless! birthdays are useful. I also did try to drag it around, lol–wishful thinking!

I hate that the Homepage doesn't show what your current Status is also… keeps making me think I don't have one.

And where is the 'Show Me More of this Person's Posts' or more importantly 'Less'

Why is everything so BIG? Is Zuckerberg's eyes going already… very inefficient use of space.

Try getting to your Draft Notes… hidden in Notes and then a little link on the right that says 'See Older Posts'

Can I get to Notifications without going to Inbox first? There is a drop menu, why not add Notifications there?

Everything takes more clicks = page views = ad views = $$$
    Meh.

LOL. What fridge real estate do I get? Above or below your kids school drawings?

  13. davepeck March 27, 2009 4:34 pm

Wishful thinking for sure! We are not that lucky

You have very good observations. Personal Status needs to be on front, agreed
